PURPOSE:To improve a printing speed and the quality of printing by a method wherein the pulse width of a hammer drive pulse and the amount of ribbon feeding are made larger than those for ordinary printing and a printing pressure is made higher in boldface printing than the ordinary printing so that a boldface character be printed by one printing operation. CONSTITUTION:When a boldface printing instruction is received from the host side, required data on a printing pressure are delivered from a main controller 90 in a print hammer driver. Based on the data, a value of a current flowing through a hammer magnet 41A is varied to change the printing pressure. Moreover, a hammer energy is sorted into 14 grades. In the boldface printing, a value +7 is added to a printing pressure level used in the ordinary printing and 7 levels of upper grade are used, so as to control the energy to be the one in a region HPB. When a multistrike ribbon is employed, ribbon feeding is conducted in the boldface printing by a ribbon feeding amount L2 being larger than in the ordinary printing so that a printed boldface character is not superposed on a subsequent printed character. |
