Light-sensitive diamine, and process for its preparation

A diamine which has a high sensitivity to light has two light-sensitive groups in the molecule and is represented by the following general formula: <IMAGE> in which Y is <IMAGE> or <IMAGE> where R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8, which are identical or different, denote a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group. Due to the reactivity of the amino groups, the diamine according to the invention can be used as starting material for a range of light-sensitive polymers. The diamine according to the invention can be prepared by subjecting aminoacetophenone and an aromatic dialdehyde to a dehydrating condensation reaction in an inert solvent in the presence of a polyvalent inorganic acid as catalyst.
