The invention relates to a device with friction pads for elastically and axially supporting a shaft. Friction pads 7 mounted, in a housing 16, on an axial thrust spring 11 by means of a base 9 against which they slide via a spherical bearing surface 8, which allows them easily to follow the small angular variations of the revolving disc 1 against which they rub, wear thus being decreased.
