[Also in Divisions B3 and C5] Dispersions of alkali metals are prepared by extruding the metal through an orifice into a liquid maintained at a temperature above the melting point of the alkali metal, and distributing the metal throughout the liquid, e.g. with a colloid mill. The metal may be extruded in the solid state, when the supply up to the extrusion orifice may be as solid or liquid. The liquid phase of the dispersion may be xylene, toluene, a mineral oil or a glyceride oil. |
