PURPOSE:To prevent decrease in cell performance by supplying gas wet with steam to a gas diffusion electrode layer when voltage of fuel cell exceeds a specified upper limit. CONSTITUTION:When a fuel cell becomes such low rate operation that output voltage of unit cell exceeds 0.9V which is the specified upper limit, a fuel gas supply valve 17 and an oxidizing agent gas supply valve 19 are closed, and inlet and outlet valves of humidity controllers 22 and 23 are opened, and humid fuel gas and humid oxidizing agent gas wet with steam are supplied to gas diffusion electrode layers 11 and 12 through gas compartments 14 and 15 of cell main body respectively. This prevents increase in electrolyte concentration. |
