The aim is to reduce the space requirement and the production cost for format machine tools. The object is to arrange the tool-carrier devices on the machine column in such a way that the dead lengths are reduced to a minimum. This object is achieved by the tool carrier being arranged with the drive motor on the side of a displaceable column facing the transport direction.
