To prevent beer losses which have occurred hitherto in beer tapping systems and to clean said systems in a trouble-free fashion, this device is inserted between the beer barrel and the beer pipe. This device comprises a control system, which is to be actuated from the tapping system, and electrically actuated valves, which block the flow of beer and press the residual beer out of the pipe using CO2 gas. The inflow of water can be controlled via a further valve, thus permitting cleaning of the system.
