In the case of a submunition detonator, a stabilising strip 24 is mounted on the upper part 3 of a housing 2. In order to achieve a self-destruction function in addition to impact detonation, the stabilising strip 24 is fixed on a bush 6 which is mounted in the housing upper part 3 and by which a detonating needle shaft 8 is guided. The latter is connected by means of an acid-sensitive intermediate piece 12 to a detonating needle head 13, in which an ampoule 19 containing an acid 20 is supported close to the intermediate piece 12. When the submunition 1 is in free flight, the stabilising strip 24 pulls the bush 6 out of the housing upper part 3. In the armed position which is thus created, the detonating needle head is cocked, the detonating needle shaft 8 is locked (detachably in the case of vertical impact on the target) and the ampoule 19 is broken, so that self-destruction takes place in the event of a flat impact on the target. <IMAGE>
