Device for safeguarding against lack of water in an instantaneous water heater heated by means of a combustible fuel, comprising a hydraulic actuator (10) and a fuel valve (12). The hydraulic actuator (10) has a high-pressure chamber (38), which can be connected in an unthrottled manner to the flow path of the water, and a low-pressure chamber (40), which is connected to the flow path via a differential-pressure generator (64, 66, Fig. 2). The differential-pressure generator (64, 66) has a constricted cross-section (80) of flow, which is arranged coaxially to the axis of the actuator and is delimited on the inside by a tappet (66) connected to the piston (36, 42) of the actuator (10). The passage (82, 84, 88, 96) connecting the differential-pressure generator (64, 66) to the low-pressure chamber (40) is routed through the tappet (66) and the piston (36, 42), giving a space-saving design which manages without an additional hole in the housing and in the cover of the hydraulic actuator (10). <IMAGE>
