1309712 Fluid bearings COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CITALCATEL 20 May 1971 [20 May 1970]- 16090/71 Heading F2A [Also in Division B3] A shaft 3 is journalled in a bearing 1 by a fluid film produced by air supplied under pressure through nozzles 2 equi-angularly spaced around the shaft axis, axial thrust on the shaft being transmitted through a flange 12 which engages a shoulder of the bearing 1 and an abutment flange 13 secured to the bearing by a spacer 14, air being supplied to the thrust bearing by equi-angularly spaced nozzles 16, 17. Each nozzle has a bore 38 of substantially constant circular cross-section and a cup 39, divergent upstream and hemispherical or frustoconical, Fig. 8. Air is exhausted through grooves 6, 10, 11 18, 19. The shaft carries a flange 4 to which a workpiece may be attached, and is driven by a motor 22 through a flexible coupling 23. |
