In a field chopper with a chopping drum (1) or chopping disk and with a discharge shaft (4) which can contain further means (5, 6) for comminuting or accelerating the stream of material, deflection bodies (8) are built into the discharge shaft (4) and deflect one or more part streams of the stream of material to mutually opposite walls (10, 7).
