PURPOSE:To enable a fuel cell to exhibit a stable performance over a long period of time by specifying the ratio of a conductive micropowder to a phosphophilic powder which are used to form the surface of each electrode. CONSTITUTION:An anode is made by forming a catalyst layer 22, consisting of a mixture layer composed of 10.5-33.5wt% of a conductive micro powder and 66.7-89.5wt% of a phosphophilic powder, on an electrode base plate 21. A cathode is made by forming a catalyst layer 25 consisting of a mixture layer composed of at least 23wt% of a conductive micro powder and 77wt% or less of a phosphophilic powder. As a result, conductive micro particles 26 are fixed by a hydrophobic polymer 27 therey forming a conductive layer in which the conductive micro particles 25 are in contact with the polymer 27. Besides phosphophilic particles 28 are fixed among the conductive micro particles 26. Accordingly, the phosphophilic particles 28 are three-dimensionally located in the catalyst layer thereby forming each continuous phosphophilic area extending in the thickness direction. Consequently, an electrolyte 29 can freely pass through the catalyst layer which is highly water repellent. |
