<p>The specific gravity of a liquid (12) in a container (10) is measured by using an ultrasonic transmitter (14) and receiver (16) and associated circuitry (18-22) to measure the velocity of sound in the liquid (12). This information is combined with liquid temperature measured by a sensor (28) to calculate the specific gravity.
