NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound of formula I (n and n' are 4-10; Z is H, lower alkyl, alkali metal or ammonium ion; at least one of Z is alkali metal or ammonium ion). EXAMPLE:8-[ 2-(or 3-)Carboxy-4-hexyl-5,6-dihydroxy-1-cyclohexyl ]-octanoic acid Na salt. USE:Rust preventive. It has low toxicity, high safety and low foaming tendency, and exhibits excellent rust preventive effect to various metals. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by neutralizing or saponifying (A) the novel dihydroxydicarboxylic acid of formula III having a cyclohexane ring or its ester, obtained easily by oxidizing the dicarboxylic acid of formula II (R and R' are H or 1-8C alkyl) having the cyclohexene ring or its ester with H2O2 or KMnO7 with (B) an alkali such as NaOH, NH3, etc. by conventional process. |
