PRODUCTION OF LONG-SIZED OPTICAL FIBER CORE

PURPOSE:To prevent the bending stress acting upon optical fiber cores from being concentrated to a spliced part by structuring the spliced part of optical fiber strands or optical fiber cores similarly to the other parts to equalize the strength in the spliced part to that in the other parts. CONSTITUTION:Coatings 5 of optical fiber cores 1 are peeled by a certain length and coatings 3 of optical fiber strands 4 are peeled by a certain length to expose base fibers 2, and they are butted and connected by fusion splicing and this spliced part is immersed in a mixed acid liquid 8 and is etched to enhance the strength. It is immersed in a liquid 9 like a silane coupling agent to form a thin film on the surface of the spliced part, and the spliced part is molded with a resin to form a strand mold reproducing part 3' which is joined with coatings 3 of optical fiber strands 4 into one body and has the same diameter as them. The strand mold reproducing part 3' is immersed in a liquid 10 of an organic silicone, a metallic indium, or the like to form a thin film around this part 3'. A core mold reproducing part 5' is molded around the strand mold reproducing part 3' with a resin so that the part 5' is joined with secondary coatings 5 of optical fiber cores 1 into one body and has the same diameter as them.
