There is disclosed a process for the preparation of uridine diphosphate-N-acetylgalactosamine comprising treating a reaction solution in which the uridine diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine has been enzymatically converted to uridine diphosphate-N-acerylgalctosamine in the presence of epimerase, directly with uridine diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine pyrophosphorylase thereby to decompose uridine diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine remaining in the reaction solution.
