Facilitating roll changing on a 2-high mill In the working position, holes in the under side of the top chocks locate pins protruding from the top of the bottom chocks. When the rolls are changed, the top roll and chocks are lifted by in-built jacks, and the bottom roll and chocks move sideways a fixed amount; the top roll set is then lowered on to the pins which locate in shallow depressions in the top roll chocks. In this position, the rolls are kept a small distance apart while they are withdrawn. The small fixed movement is achieved by an additional free-moving piston at the end of the main piston. This piston can only move the fixed amount required, so that no judgement is required by the operator. An adjustable piece between the free piston and the end of the main piston allows this distance to be varied.
|
