<p>The copolymer is prepared by heating 2-15 wt.% of hydroxyalkyl esters of methacrylic (or acrylic) acid of formula:- (where n is 2-6, R is H or methyl) and (I) has OH index of 100-200; 15-65 wt.% styrene; 2-12 wt.% hydroxy (ethyl or propyl) acrylate (or methacrylate); 1-3 wt.% acrylic (or methacrylic) acid; 12-30 wt.% of an ether of N-methylol acryl or -methacrylamide with a saturated 1-8C alkanol; and 10-55 wt.% of an ester (or mixture) of acrylic (or methacrylic) acid with a 1-10C alkanol, in the presence of initiators and chain controlling agents. The coatings have excellent hardness, elasticity, strength and resist yellowing or heating.</p> |
