The invention relates to a method and a device for launching gliders with the aid of cable winches. In order to achieve a stable towing process - without having to provide any special practise and skill of the winch driver - in order to tow the glider up and at the same time to keep the load within acceptable limits, the position of the linkage for controlling the fuel supply is regulated in accordance with predetermined settings (required values, desired values).
