A process for the preparation of 2-oxo-1,3-dioxolanes by reaction of epoxides with carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst and, if necessary, an inert solvent, wherein the reaction is effected at temperatures from 40 to 180 degrees C and at normal pressure or slightly increased pressure in the presence of at least one catalyst from the group comprising triphenylphosphane, tritolylphosphane, diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, 4-dimethylaminopyridine, 4-(1-pyrrolidinyl)pyridine, amidines, imidazole and the alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl substitution products thereof. |
