PURPOSE:To enable the detection of the residual amount of ink without providing a special sensor, by a method wherein picture data are counted and when they reach specific values, the signal for no ink supply is generated. CONSTITUTION:Input picture data 1a-1c are converted to binary picture data 4a-4c via a picture processing part 2 and a dither processing part 3 and inputted to heads 5a-5c. Each ink is jetted from each of heads 5a-5c to form a color picture. Further, the picture data 4a-4c are inputted to counters 12a-12c. When they reach preset values, they are preset and at the same time, pulse signals are generated. The signals are counted by counters 13a-13c. When they reach specific values, signals 7a-7c are generated. Those preset values are set by converting the head temperature signal detected with a temperature sensor 8 to the preset value via A/D converter 10 and ROM 11. Thus, the residual amount of ink can be accurately detected without requiring a special sensor. |
