PURPOSE:To provide a hair tonic containing one or more saponins selected from lucyoside A-I, exhibiting excellent hair tonic effect by the inhibition of reductase activity, effective by local application, free from systemic side effect and having low skin irritation and high safety. CONSTITUTION:The objective hair tonic can be produced by compounding one or more saponins selected from lucyoside A-I of formula (R1 is CH2OH for lucyoside A, B and E, CH3 for C, G and H, CHO for D and F and CH2OH for I; R2 is H for I and beta-D-glucopyranoside for the others; R3 is OH for A and C and for the others; R4 is OH for B, D, G and I and H for the others). The amount of the saponin is 0.001-10wt%, preferably 0.01-3wt% in dry basis based on the whole hair tonic composition. The hair tonic has extremely excellent hair tonic effect by the above activities and high safety and is free from side effect. The above compound is rich in a plant of Cucurbitaceae family, especially in snake gourd. |
