PURPOSE:To facilitate the production of the titled polysaccharide having a variety of properties in powdery form, by heating starch (partial hydrolyzate) in the presence of a sugar alcohol and an acid catalyst in an anhydrous condition. CONSTITUTION:To starch or a partial hydrolyzate thereof of a degree of decomposition of 10-30 (A) (e.g., powdered starch sugar), 5-100wt% sugar alcohol (B) (e.g., sorbitol) and a catalyst (C) comprising 0.3-0.5wt%, based on the solid content of components A and B, inorganic acid (e.g., phosphoric acid) or 5-15wt% organic acid (e.g., citric acid) are added, and the resulting mixture is powdered by concentration in a vacuum, if necessary. The powdered mixture is heated to about 130 deg.C in a vacuum and, after confirming that it is in powdery form, it is polymerized by keeping at 150-250 deg.C for 1-3hr. The obtained reaction product is dissolved, as necessary, in water, purified by desalting and decoloration with activated carbon and an ion exchange resin and made syrupy by concentration or powdered by drying. |
