PURPOSE:To provide an electrode material composed mainly of an electrolytic reduction product of cellulose, having light-weight and high energy density and maximum output density and capable of producing a pollution-free cell. CONSTITUTION:A powdery cellulose is suspended in a medium or coated on the surface of a metallic electrode plate (Pt, Ni, etc.) for cathode and is reduced in an electrolyte solvent in the presence of an electrically conductive salt to obtain an electrode material. The electrode material is used as a positive electrode and/or negative electrode (preferably negative electrode), immersed in an electrolyte solution and applied with voltage from external source to dope an anion to the positive electrode and a cation to the negative electrode to generate electromotive force. The cell is connected to an external load to dedope the anion from the positive electrode and the cation from the negative electrode to effect the flow of electric current. The doping and dedoping phenomena are utilized as a charging and discharging processes of a cell. |
