To bleach and oxidise textiles, the textiles are treated in an alkaline aqueous medium with a solution containing a sparingly soluble peroxide, such as a metal peroxide whose metal portion is a metal of group IIa or IIb of the periodic table and a chelating agent such as polycarboxylic acids, aminopolycarboxylic acids, alkylphosphonic acid, aminophosphonic acids and/or salts thereof, at a pH from 8 to 14, preferably 9 to 12. |
