The chimney insert serves for renewing domestic and industrial chimneys with a flue gas capacity for boilers up to 1000 kW. It is produced in one piece in tubular special steel and is introduced into the chimney to be renewed by means of a building crane. Around the special steel tube is a water cooling jacket with dished ends and a helical water flow pipe is welded in from the bottom to the top inside the jacket. When the chimney renewal insert has been introduced, the water cooling jacket is connected by its first connection nozzle to the heating return line directly before the heating boiler in the partial flow. The water is fed upwards inside the jacket to just below the upper end and emerges in a jet-like manner, and subsequently flows down inside the jacket in order to be removed at the second connection. During this process, the heating water cools the flue gases down to the value of the heating return temperature and simultaneously absorbs this residual energy. Depending on the temperature level of the heating return line, even the utilisation of the latent heat in the flue gas region, e.g. at return temperatures below 45 DEG C is successful.
