Use of open-cell, acetalysed polyvinyl alcohol for producing shaped articles

The invention relates to the use of predominantly open-cell acetalysed polyvinyl alcohol foam, referred to in the following as PVAL foam for short, for the production of shaped articles, such as for example handles of sports equipment and tools, linings of sports shoes or seating panels of furniture. The use according to the invention of the dry PVAL foam, made water repellent if appropriate, is of advantage wherever low weight by volume, high abrasion resistance and good absorbency for perspiration are simultaneously required; in addition, it is possible for the moulded article to be individually adapted ergonomically by thermoforming.
