The printed products (9) to be inserted into the radially extending compartments (3), which are open towards the outside, of a processing drum (1) driven in rotation are fed to said processing drum (1) in a vertically suspended position. This purpose is served by a conveying device (8) having an essentially straight, horizontally extending conveying direction (B). The conveying device (8) has grippers (11) which are arranged with a spacing (a) and which hold the printed products (9) at their upper side edge (9a). Arranged below the conveying device (8) and connected upstream of the processing drum (1) is at least one conveyor belt (19) which is driven in rotation and on which the printed products (9) come to rest with their lower side edge (9b) and, during this process, are stabilised in their suspended position. The printed products (9) supplied are introduced into the compartments (3) of the processing drum (1) with their lower side edge (9b) in the leading position. This feeding of the printed products (9) in a vertical suspended position permits high processing speeds. <IMAGE>
