To obtain phosphoric diesters selectively from a mixture of phosphoric monoester and diester, the phosphoric monoester in a mixture of phosphoric monoesters and diesters is hydrolysed with bases at a pH of 5 to 10 and temperatures from 100 to 250 DEG C in a selective fashion, the bases which are added to the reaction mixture containing at least 1 mol of H2O/mol of monoester. After hydrolysis of the monoester, the phosphoric diester together with the alcohol obtained by the hydrolysis process is removed from the aqueous phase as the organic phase.
