An attachment for a hammer drill comprising a body member 1 adapted to be connected to a percussion tool, for example a chisel 8, incorporating a percussion transmitting member 3 capable of rotary and reciprocatory motion within the body member 1, the percussion transmitting member 3 being disposed with respect to the body member 1 so that during operation percussive action from the drill is transmitted to the tool 8 but rotation of the tool is prevented. The member 3 has a head 5 with a bevel 6 which makes a substantially point contact with the flat bottom of the cavity 2 of the body member 1 so that rotary motion of the head is not transmitted via the member 1 to the tool 8. The cavity 2 accommodates a brass brush 4. Alternatively the bush 4 can be fixed to a brass or steel annulus secured by screws to the top of the member 1. The tool 8 may be of solid steel for use as a hammer or a pestle for grinding materials in a mortar. <IMAGE>
