The invention relates to a method for accelerating and intensifying the sizing of filler-containing paper products with hydrophobic, cellulose-reactive neutral size. When the conventional acidic resin/alum size mixture is replaced by neutral size, the problem of unduly slow maturing of the size manifests itself in the case of the usable sizes. It has now been found surprisingly that much faster neutral sizing is achieved if the filler is separately treated with a cationic additive before it is added to the fibre suspension. A novel, rapid neutral sizing process for paper has thus been invented, in which there is no unnecessary size consumption by the filler, the paper being rendered hydrophobic almost instantaneously, which considerably facilitates the manufacturing process for paper products. In addition, the result of sizing is improved. |
