The invention relates to a process and a plant for waste water (effluent) purification and/or sewage sludge disposal. It is proposed that waste water and/or sewage sludge are continuously passed in metered amounts through aerated shell beds and the purified or sludge-free water is taken off in the overflow downstream of the shell beds.
