In a signal transmitter (10) for an ignition distributor the transmitter disc (11) has several segments (13) which are diametrically opposed. These co-operate with polar projections (16) formed on the polar disc (15) of the signal transmitter (10) and have a triangular cross-section. Their points are facing towards the segments (13). The number of polar projections (16) and segments (13) is equal in each case. The signal transmitter (10) has, thanks to the segments (13), a precise rear flank enabling the ignition pulses to be controlled in the event of a small inherent shift in the overall ignition unit.
