During the grinding of a saw tooth, the tooth is ground in a variable section at a high operating speed and in the remaining section at a low operating speed. This enables the idle stroke of the grinding wheel to be reduced. In addition, a more favourable distribution of the time for grinding the tooth back and the tooth face is achieved - in particular in the grinding process with continuous rotary movement of the saw blade.
