Synchronous alternators (5) which are used as shaft generators in the case of ship drives are connected to a diesel engine (1) in a floating manner without their own mounting. In order to avoid excessive stress on the crankshaft (2) when a counterweight is required, the end wall (13) of the rotor (9), which is constructed as a bell-shaped body (10), of the synchronous alternator (5) is provided over a part of its circumference with a disc-shaped ring segment (14) which projects beyond the outer surface (11). The bell-shaped body (10) thus also acts as a counterweight. <IMAGE>
