A process for the removal of nitrates from drinking water by ion exchange, of the type in which the resin bed , after exhaustion, is regenerated concurrently with the exhaustion flow in successive stages: of expansion of the resin to loosen the bed, of percolation of concentrated brine or other appropriate regenerant, followed by rinsing, also concurrently. The rinsing stage is followed by a homogenisation by mixing the resin particles, this being possible by energetic stirring with highly compressed air, injection of a stream of water or any other means of stirring. An apparatus is described, where the mixing is carried out after the resin exchanger (1) has been drained down to a certain level (h) above the bed, corresponding to an end of a water flow sequence and before filling the exchanger with water for a new treatment. <IMAGE> |
