A process and apparatus for growing plantlets from embryos. The process includes the steps of providing a sterile growth environment including reticulated foam, a culture medium, and a container holding the foam and the culture medium; inoculating the foam with the embryos; and incubating the embryos under sterile, plantlet development conditions to develop plantlets from the embryos. Once the plantlets have developed, they may be removed from the growth environment; and this may be done by removing the foam and plantlets from the container, removing any remaining culture medium from the foam, and covering the foam and the roots of the plantlets with a potting mix. |
