PURPOSE:To omit a modifier as well as to aim at improvements in simplification of a device and generating efficiency, by modifying methanol with vapor, and using a fuel pole capable of oxidizing the forming hydrogen electrochemically. CONSTITUTION:On a ribbed porous carbon substrate, an electrode supporting an electrode catalyzer bearing platinum, ruthenium and manganese on an acetylene black and a catalyzer layer consisting of polytetrafluoroethylene is manufactured. A modified catalyzer made up of treating a granular catalyzer bearing copper and zinc on zirconium phosphate with polytetrafluoroethylene is placed between ribs of this electrode, setting it down to a fuel pole. The electrode that does not place the modified catalyzer is set down to an air pole, and phosphoric acid is used as an electrolyte. A cell is constituted so as to cause each catalyzer layer of the fuel pole and the air pole to come into contact with the paste electrolytic layer made up by mixing a powdery matrix consisting of silicon carbide and zirconium phosphate with phosphoric acid in between. |
