1290114 Bonded fibre fabric SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 8 Jan 1971 995/71 Heading D1R Modacrylic fibres are bonded by applying a blend of solvent and diluent then heating. Copolymers of acrylonitrile with vinyl chloride (60%) or vinylidene chloride (40 or 50%) are specified. The fibres may be staple or continuous, in the form of an air laid or carded and crosslaid web, or yarns, slivers, tows or felts. The web may be needled or stitched before or after solvent bonding. Suitable solvents are γ-butyrolactone, N, N-dimethyl acetamide, N, N-dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulphoxide, ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. The diluent, which must have a vapour pressure at 100‹C of 0.001 to 5 times that of the solvent, and must not dissolve the fibres, may be diethylene or triethylene glycol, iso-octanol, 2-phenyl ethanol, benzyl alcohol and butyl "oxitol". The blend may be applied to the fibres before or after formation of the web. |
