The invention concerns an effective procedure for the combustion of solid fuel and contaminated fuel in liquid form, also a new method of generating energy. The problem with conventional methods for fluidized beds is that small fuel particles escape into the combustion system, and the sulphur-oxide-absorbent particles are not sufficiently active. In the present invention, the conditions are described under which the above-mentioned drawbacks can be considerably reduced. According to the procedure, solid fuel is fed to the combustion chamber, where a fluidized mass is maintained at atmospheric pressure, which mass consists of inert particles, ash, partly-burned fuel particles and advantageously of used or partly-used sulphur sorbent, whereby the mean particle size is 100-800 mm. At the same time, removal of fine particles from the fluidized mass is effected by maintaining a mass surface velocity of 0.15-2.3 m/s. The material leaving the combustion chamber is collected in a recirculation cyclone and returned to the fluidized mass, so that the quantity per hour of returned material is 1-5 times the weight of the fluidized mass. Heat is recovered from pipes in the fluidized mass and the waste gases, while the dust is separated from the cooled waste gases. |
