Patterned fibrous fleeces are mfred. by passing fibres suspended in a medium through a screen, mesh, fabric or the like to effect the pattern and through another such arrangement to produce the fleece. The screen or the like for producing the pattern is placed onto the screen for the fleece, the free openings of which are smaller than those of the patterning screen. Pref. the free openings of the latter are at least double as large as those of the screen for the fleece. The method establishes a pattern by providing differences in fleece thickness and is particularly useful in the production of fibrous fleeces containing quantities of longer fibres, e.g. that used as non-woven material substitutes for fabric.
