PURPOSE:To improve yield by cross rolling a slab by a press to a required length from either one end of the front and rear ends toward the other end, then rolling down the unrolled down part in the opposite direction from either of the other ends. CONSTITUTION:The slab 2 extracted from a heating furnace is passed by a cross press 3 and is passed through a vertical rolling mill 4, by which the scale at the transverse end faces of the slab 2 is removed. The slab 2 is then passed through the press 3 and is successively rolled down to the required length from the rear end so that the unrolled down part 2' at least at the front end of the slab 2 remains. Dies 6 of the press 3 are opened from this state and the slab 2 is pulled out as it is toward the upper stream side and this time, the part 2' is cross roll down. The generation of a fish tail is thus prevented and the yield is improved. |
