Process for separating tetrafluoroethylene from gas mixtures containing in addition to tetrafluoroethylene, perfluorohydrocarbons and/or hydrogen containing fluorohydrocarbons with one to four carbon atoms, excepting from gas mixtures obtained in the pyrolysis of difluoromonochloromethane which comprises passing the gas mixtures at a temperature of from +60 DEG to -30 DEG C. in countercurrent contact with methylisobutylketone in a separatory zone, collecting the tetrafluoroethylene at the top of said zone and the methylisobutylketone containing said perfluorohydrocarbons and/or hydrogen containing fluorohydrocarbons at the bottom of said zone.
