Melt-spun polyamide filaments are drawn in the "as-spun" condition before their birefringence exceeds 0.001, by pre-drawing at a draw ratio of 1.25-2.9, followed by a further drawing step. The filaments may be heated to 40-140‹ C. prior to either drawing step, and the overall draw ratio is suitably 4.0-6.0. Polyhexamethylene adipamide and polycaproamide are specified. |
