A lead acid battery 15 having an inter-cell connector 12 passing through a slot 18 in the top of an inter-cell partition 16 is characterized by a member 22 which at least partially closes the slot above the connector and comprises a saddle of inverted U-shape with a pair of legs 23 which straddle the connector and depend from a transom 24, at least part of each leg being grooved or split into two 27 so as to accommodate the edges of the slot, the grooves communicating with one or more openings 30 in the top of the saddle through which sealing compound can be introduced. The under-side of the connector may be grooved 13 to accommodate the lower edge of the slot and optionally also to provide a channel for sealing compound. Alternatively, the lower edge of the slot may itself be thickened and grooved to provide a channel for sealing compound. The saddle may be of plastics material. The lower edge of the transom may be grooved 33, to provide a channel for sealant. The sealant may be an epoxyresin. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the semicircular channel in each leg is closed at the bottom.</p> |
