The invention relates to a roving-break sensor on a spinning and twisting apparatus, in which two fibre rovings 4, 5 emerging from the pair of delivery rollers 1 of a drafting unit are combined, twisted together and wound up as a yarn 8, and in which the break of even only one of the two fibre rovings is sensed. The invention is characterised by at least one light scanner 7 which senses the presence or absence of at least one of the fibre rovings 4, 5 or the yarn 8 and the scanning beam of which is essentially perpendicular to the plane in which the remaining fibre roving moves in the event of a break of the other particular fibre roving. <IMAGE>
