CCD area sensors which are arranged in the image plane of an objective are used for directly recording digital image data. Commercially available sensors are only small-area sensors by means of which the image formats required for photogrammetric purposes cannot be covered. To be able to record large-format images digitally, these are split, using fibre-optical image conductors or lenses, into part-images which are supplied simultaneously to one CCD area sensor each or to another mosaic detector. The grey-scale matrixes produced can be mathematically assembled to form the grey-scale matrix of the total image.
