PURPOSE:To obtain the titled optical fiber with reduced transmission loss due to hydrogen by incorporating a specified amt. of chlorine into a core glass. CONSTITUTION:From 0.08-0.12wt% chlorine is incorporated into the core glass of the optical fiber. By this chlorine, the hydrogen to be diffused into the inside of the optical fiber is volatilized, the formation of a hydroxyl group due to hydrogen is controlled and the hydrogen resistance can be improved. Since the optical fiber has excellent hydrogen resistance, an increases in the loss due to hydrogen is reduced and the stabilized low-loss property can be maintained for an extremely long period. |
