An odour seal, which is to be provided, in particular for gulleys in buildings or outdoors, comprises a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet which opens into the drainage system or another water-receiving means and is located at a higher level than the liquid inlet. In order to configure the odour seal in a universal manner, with the result that it is also suitable for gulleys or openings closed off by covers and adjoined by shaft-type receiving chambers, the respective opening (5) can be closed off by an insert (1) which fully covers over the opening (5) and, in its peripheral region (2), terminates with the opening (5) in a sealed manner. The insert (1) is designed in a cup-shaped and double-walled manner, the liquid inlet being formed at the lowermost point of the upper cup wall (11) and the liquid outlet (15) being located in the lower cup wall (14) at a point above the liquid inlet (12). <IMAGE>
