The flexible membrane is for a coupling between two shaft ends where the shaft axes are not in line or are inclined to each other. It has drillings round the periphery for bolts coupling it to shaft flanges or to an intermediate piece, on a single pitch circle or two coaxial ones. - It is composed of fibres having a modulus of elasticity at the most equal to that of steel and most or all aligned so as to work under tension; and of an impregnation material for the fibres giving sufficient resistant to compression loads and kinking, also cohesion between the fibres to prevent them moving in relation to each other.
